The film Glory portrays the 54th Massachusetts- the famous regiment consisting of all African American soldier. Of course, the leaders of the regiment are all whites. It records the establishment, the training and some battles of it. The film ends with an fail battle making most of the regiment lost including their highest commander Robert Shaw. This film is an old but classic movie so that many teachers take it as source when teaching students the history of the Civil War.
The film Glory
My paper focuses on several scenes showing the racial discrimination in the north such as some white soldiers disdain and laugh at an African American officer who is higher rank than them. My paper’s theme is that Civil War abolishes slavery but not racial discrimination. What’s the significance of the Civil War in history and why the discrimination exists in North even they do not adapt the slavery? What’s the difference of the real 54th Massachusetts between in history and in the film? I use McPherson’ s article about the real 54th Massachusetts combined with the political background at that time as a source to help answer the question above. Then I understand why the director end with the fail battle and how hardworking the African American win the respect and acknowledging in the Civil War. I also find Broadwater’s article about the confederate attitude to free African American to compare to the discrimination in the North. In fact, the racial discrimination is not more serious in South than in North. So the fact that North wins the Civil War just eliminate one of the sources of racial discrimination- slavery not racial discrimination itself.
Glory is a really awesome film which reflects the real situation in the Civil War by some fictional characters. If you are interested in the Civil War, you can not miss that film.Besides, you can know more deeply about the film and my answers to the questions from my essay.

Talking about cultural difference, the racial discrimination is often a popular issue. In your blog, I cannot exactly figure it out why you think the Civil War just abort the slavery and the racial discrimination still persists after the North's win. Follow your thoughts, it seems that Civil War just abolishes the racial discrimination in South of America, but not the north. So are current racial discrimination issues caused by the persistency of the North people?
