Those beautiful outfit and fantastic location apparently satisfies our visual need. Is that all? Is that the only reason we spent millions of dollars on refilming the story? Of course not! Actually, the attractive contain, or the story plays an important role. The romantic love story touches our heart and people find the ironic characters funny when relate them to those superficial people in real world; in the other word, resonance helps. This movie, by using amusing method, reflects a lot of social issues that has not been solved yet. Take an example. As marriage of Elizabeth, is disrupted owing to her poverty, people nowadays are still treated differently according to their wealth. Also, like Elizabeth’s best friend, Charlotte Lucas, who marry to a mercenary man just for money and status, some people at present marry for money. Elizabeth and her father, Mr. Bennet, opposite to those mercenary people, insist on their idea thinking that spirit things, like love, are much more important than money and other material things. They are like models to guide us back to the real life track and help us realize what actually matters in our life.
Thus, the main reason for remaking is that the problem described in the movie still exits and we still need this enduring popularly story to correct our value.
Hi there
ReplyDeleteI feel like to watch this film after reading your post. Honestly, though it is a famous and classical love story, I haven't finished watch it yet. LOL
Well, I agree on what you said about remaking this classical piece. I feel like the future should not be left over from the past.Sharing the best of the past and the present to our next generation will be a great gift for their growth!
Good Job Girl
I definitely agree that it's the story that draws viewers back to this film over and over, no matter how many times they've seen it. The story of a girl standing up to cultural norms and the pressure of her mother in order to hold out for true love and companionship is empowering. It inspires courage in its viewers to hold out for the best and not settle for comfortable.
ReplyDeleteWhen this story was written this would have seemed scandalous, a women who would dare to hold out for love rather than take the option that would keep her family secure. It is interesting to note, however, that the author of this tale never did marry. Maybe its okay to compromise on a few things in order to gain the joy's of marriage.
Hei, Peifang, although we two talk about the same movie and novel, we investigate it in a different angle~ Your question put forward in the beginning of the blog makes me think twice too. Why did I choose Pride and Prejudice as my subject to write about? hahaha, that's because I'm personally fascinated by the plots. I only took a small part--Elizabeth and Darcy's romance story to analyze, but you look at it in a broader way. Your deep thoughts of this novel and its association with our present social problems are very appleaing and educational!!
